Penance Chaplet: Lent

Crucifix: Prayer Before The Crucifix

Look down upon me good and gentle Jesus,
While before your face I humbly kneel and, with burning soul, pray and beseech you
to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of
faith, hope, and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment.

While I contemplate,
with great love and tendered pity, your most precious wounds,
pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, your prophet, said of you,
My Jesus:"they have pierced my hands and feet, they have numbered all my bones." Amen.

Bead 1: Come Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of you love.
Send forth you spirit and they shall be created. and you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God,
you taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that by the gifts of the same spirit
we may be truly wise and always rejoice in his consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Bead 2: Act of Offering

Jesus, you have given youself to me,
now let me give myself to you;
I give you my body, that it may be chaste and pure.
I give you my soul, that it may always love you.
I give you every thought, word, and deed of my life
and offer all for your honor and glory. Amen

Bead 3: The confiteor

I confess to almighty God,
and to you my brothers and sisters, that i have greatly sinned,
In my thoughts and in my words,
what i have done and what i have failed to do,
through my faults, through my faults, through my most grievous faults;
therefore i ask the blessed ever-virgin,
all the angels and saints,
and you my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God. Amen.

Bead 4: Act of Contrition

O, my God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended you.
I detest all my sins because of your just punishment,
but most of all because they offend you, my God,
who are all-good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace,
to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen

Bead 5: Act of faith (X5)

O my God,
I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine persons,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins,
and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches,
because in revealing them you can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen

Glory Be:

Glory be, to the father, and to the son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Bead 6: Act of hope (X5)

O my God,
relying on Your almighty power and infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of Your grace and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ,
my Lord and Redeemer. Amen

Glory Be:

Glory be, to the father, and to the son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Bead 6: Act of charity (X5)

O my God,
I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul
because you are all good and worthy of all my love.
I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you.
I forgive all who have injured me
and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen

Glory Be:

Glory be, to the father, and to the son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Conclude with Doxology:

Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, forever and ever. Amen
